Hello, we are already halfway through 2022, and as we reach this point, we received final approval of 2 papers that were under peer review. One paper -- beautifully captained by doctoral student P. Metolina -- concerns our contribution to efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the final product of a work in partnership with the Pasteur Institute and sponsored by the Polytechnic School's endowment fund, the Amigos da Poli. In this work, published in the journal Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences, we evaluate the effect of UV-C radiation on the deactivation of SARS-CoV-2 in fabric, surgical and N95 masks as a function of UV dose. The other article is the result of the hard work of the doctoral student C.A. Gusmão, on the development of catalysts based on TiO2 supported on SiO2 for the decontamination of gas streams contaminated by n-hexane in a fluidized bed reactor. By the way, she recorded an excellent video promoting her research, check it out here (in Portuguese). The manuscript was published in Chemical Engineering Research and Design, after some back-and-forth instances and an extensive input from peer reviewers. The article can be found at this link.

And lastly, in the 2nd edition of the WENDEQ (National Web Meeting of Chemical Engineering), two of our undergraduate students received awards for best works in the fields of chemical reaction engineering, and literature review. Soon the annals of the event will be published, and I will upload the full papers here. For now, here are the students' video presentations:

Gabriel Longo Lopes. Construction of a machine learning model for predicting kinetic constants of environmental interest (best abstract in the field of Chemical Reaction Engineering).

Pedro Henrique de Oliveira. Design criteria for passive mixing microreactors (best work in the field of Literature Review).
